What to see & do

Sam and his family call Somerset and Shepton Mallet home, and it’s also where the famous Glastonbury Festival takes place! Surrounded by the beauty of the English countryside, there’s plenty to see and explore while you're here for our celebration.

Here’s a few ideas.

Wells

  • Visit Wells Cathedral which has been inspiring pilgrims for nearly 850 years, built in the Gothic style and hosts one of the oldest medieval clock faces in the world.

  • Also situated in Wells and adjoining the Cathedral is Vicars’ Close, believed to be the only complete medieval street left in England.

  • Our recommendations for eating and drinking around Wells:

    • Cafes: Strangers with Coffee, Long Story Bistro, Loaf, The Bishop’s Table

    • Restaurants: The Olive Tree, Root Wells, The Fountain, Rugantino

    • Pubs: Rose and Crown, The Crown, The Globe Inn, The Kings Head

    • Wine bars: Sadlers Wine Bar, Bishop’s Eye, The Pressoir

Somerset

  • Walk up Glastonbury Tor for scenic views of the Somerset Levels, Mendip hills and the Severn estuary.

  • Meander through Cheddar Gorge, one of Britain's most spectacular natural landmarks, but also a site of special scientific interest and part of the newly formed Mendip Hills National Landscape.

  • Relax at Deer Leap viewpoint for some spectacular views of Glastonbury, the Tor and Exmoor National Park.

Bath

  • Spend a day wandering the Georgian streets of Bath, visiting the Roman baths, Bath Abbey (gorgeous views from the rooftop), Pulteney Bridge, and the Royal Crescent.

  • Treat yourself to afternoon tea at the Pump Room, relax at the Thermae Bath Spa or enjoy a picnic in Victoria Park.

  • We would recommend pre-booking tickets for the above sights and the Thermae Bath Spa as the city is particularly busy in September and tickets can sell out.
